หัวเรื่อง:ไม่มีชื่อไทย (ชื่ออังกฤษ : Comparison of Ground-Ant Diversity Between Natural Forests and Disturbed Forests Along a Natural Gas Pipeline Transect in Thong Pha Phum National Park, Kanchanaburi Province ผู้เขียน:วัฒนา ศักดิ์ชูวงษ์, วียะวัฒน์ ใจตรง, Kazuo Ogata สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์:pdf AbstractThe diversity in a natural forest of ground-dwelling ants was compared with that associated with reforestation following disturbance from the construction of a gas pipeline and its corresponding forest canopy and litter loss. Ground-dwelling ants were collected using a pitfall-trap method from plots in natural forest and also from plots in disturbed forest that were 20 m wide along a pipeline transect located in the Thong Pha Phum National Park, Kanchanaburi. The results showed that the canopy cover and amount of litter were associated with species richness and abundance of ants. Canopy cover and litter amount were significantly lower in the disturbed plots than the undisturbed plots (natural forest) in hill evergreen forest plots, but no significant difference was detected between disturbed plots and undisturbed plots located in mixed deciduous forest. Ant species and abundance were significantly higher in undisturbed plots than in disturbed plots in hill evergreen forest, but no statistical difference was found between plots in mixed deciduous forest. Ant species were found to be more similar between plots in mixed deciduous forest than between plots in hill evergreen forest. The results indicated that to maintain ant diversity, the permanent trees in the disturbed area along a pipeline transect are very important. |
หัวเรื่อง:ไม่มีชื่อไทย (ชื่ออังกฤษ : Ant Diversity in Forest and Traditional Hill-Tribe Agricultural Types in Northern Thailand) ผู้เขียน:วัฒนา ศักดิ์ชูวงษ์, วียะวัฒน์ ใจตรง, Kazuo Ogata สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์:pdf AbstractThis study investigated the impacts of traditional hill-tribe agricultural systems on biodiversity conservation. It compared the abundance and diversity of ants across a gradient of different types of land use in northern Thailand: tropical montane forest (MF); jungle converted to tea plantation (JT); ex forest left fallow for one year (F1); ex forest left fallow for eight years (F8 - the traditional hill-tribe agricultural system); and permanent agriculture (C -growing cabbages as an annual crop). Ants were collected from the uppermost 20 cm of the ground, covering the soil to the upper litter in eight 30 cm2 quadrats from the different types of land use during a range of seasons at each site. A total of 12,006 ants were collected, representing 130 species from 48 genera in seven subfamilies. JT had the highest average number of species followed by MF, F8, F1 and C, respectively. There were significant differences in the number of ant species among types of land use and seasons, but no significant difference in the abundance of ants was found among land use systems. The results indicated that jungle tea land use maintained a significantly greater species-richness than any of the forest-fallow or annual-crop land uses in the highlands. |

หัวเรื่อง:ไม่มีชื่อไทย (ชื่ออังกฤษ : Effects of Tree Shade on Attacks by the Red Cedar Shoot Borer, Hypsipyla robusta (Moore) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)) ผู้เขียน:วัฒนา ศักดิ์ชูวงษ์, Chumphot Chobtham, Sungwol Rattanachan สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์:pdf AbstractThe effects of shade on the attack by Hypsipyla robusta were investigated in red cedar seedlings (Toona ciliata) planted in the open (no shade) and under neem, Azadirachta indica A.Juss. (Meliaceae) shade. Seventy-two T. ciliata were planted in each plot. The trial was regularly monitored, assessing both the physical characteristics of the trees and damage by H. robusta at 12 and 24 months after planting. T. ciliata in the open plot was seriously attacked, with attacks at 12 and 24 months after planting of 93% (2 attacks/tree) and 100% (12 attacks/tree), respectively. T. ciliata planted under shade had no attacks at 12 months, but 43% of the seedlings were attacked (at least one attack/tree) at 24 months after planting. The general performance of T. ciliata trees in the open plot was very poor, while the trees under shade were in good form and taller than the trees in the open planted plot. |
